Injection Fall-Off Test (IFOT)

Injection Fall-Off Test (IFOT)

The Injection Fall-Off Test (IFOT) is a well testing procedure that not only specifies the capability of a layer or formation to produce but also gathers critical reservoir characteristic data. The fall-off test involves injecting water into the reservoir at a predetermined flow rate, followed by shutting in the well to observe the pressure response.

Purpose of the Injection Fall-Off Test

  • Obtain Reservoir Data: Determine permeability and transmissibility characteristics of the reservoir
  • Evaluate Completion Conditions: Assess the effectiveness and quality of the well’s completion
  • Measure Pressures: Monitor injection pressure and reservoir static pressure
  • Identify Reservoir Anomalies: Observe and identify any anomalies or unexpected conditions within the reservoir

Methodology

During the IFOT, water is injected at a constant flow rate until the well is shut in, allowing for the analysis of the pressure response over time. This helps in understanding the reservoir behavior and efficiency under different flow conditions.
